Successful Competition Season for Formula Student Team Tallinn

FS Team Tallinn with its biggest team so far which includes 70 members had a successful competition season. In the first competition in Italy from 11 – 15 July, the FS Team Tallinn was crowned the overall winner in the electric car classification. The team arrived to the competition held in the Autodromo Riccardo Paletti circuit with diverse feelings – they knew that FEST18 was fast, however, they had no knowledge of how the vehicle would compete with others. Winning the design award in the static events was definitely one of the highlights of the night. Together with the success of the dynamic events, the team aquired the following prizes:
• Dallara’s award for best car/resources balance
• The best car in efficiency
• First place in the design event
• The overall winner of the electric vehicle classification
Although there were no awards given out for the dynamic events, FS Team Tallinn was placed first in skidpad and endurance and second in autocross and acceleration.
Competitions held from 18th to 22nd of July in Hungary were another success story for FS Team Tallinn as they finished second in the overall results, being defeated by only one team: FS Team Delft. Several trophies were raised by the engineers from Tallinn:
• Gold: cost event
• Silver: overall in electric category, dynamic events overall, acceleration, endurance, skidpad
• Bronze: static events overall, design event, autocross, efficiency
After the fabulous closing ceremony, the team traveled to Györ (Hungary) to have a small break and to test the vehicle. Next stop was FS Austria in Spielberg, starting on 29th July. Unfortunately, FS Team Tallinn then faced its first serious fallback – the last day of FS Austria ended with a disqualification from endurance, which made it impossible to be awarded in the electric overalls. The last international competition took place in Hockenheim, Germany. The event marked the end of the team’s European tour and despite having a sad end of DNF in endurance, they were happy to be part of Formula Student Germany competition among other ~3700 engineering students after seven years of waiting to qualify for the competition. The final outcome was 15th place out of 40 electric teams.
Congratulations 🙂 !!!
