TTK University of Applied Sciences Introduces Social Work Programme in Ida-Viru County

TTK University of Applied Sciences is set to broaden educational horizons in Ida-Viru County with the launch of a new social work programme in fall 2024, catering to professionals already active in the field.

The initiative targets local social sector workers who have been unable to pursue higher education until now. Classes will be held at the Tallinn Health Care College’s facility in Kukruse, accommodating up to 25 students.

This move is part of an effort supported by the Just Transition Fund to enhance education and employment prospects in Ida-Viru County. Kati Kukk, Director of TTK’s Institute of Service Economy, emphasized the programme’s role in addressing regional employment needs and bolstering local educational resources, especially given the lower rates of higher education attainment in Ida-Viru County compared to the national average.

“We encourage those already working in the social sector to consider advancing their careers. This program not only offers professional growth opportunities aligned with current challenges but also promises better service delivery,” said Kati Kukk. She highlighted the added benefit of potential formal qualification upgrades.

The curriculum will cover a wide range of topics including the welfare system, psychology, counseling, client engagement, and social policy, with a strong focus on practical skills for working with various demographic groups. Moreover, the programme lays a foundation for aspiring social entrepreneurs.

Funding from the Just Transition Fund underscores the importance of Estonian-language education initiatives, contributing to language proficiency enhancement in the region.

The launch of the programme marks a significant step forward in addressing local educational needs and fostering professional development opportunities for social sector workers in Ida-Viru County.
