Students from the Environmental Technology and Management curriculum at TTK University of Applied Sciences recently took part in an international study programme held at Polytechnic University of Portalegre in Portugal, where they gained knowledge and experience on current topics related to sustainability and environmental management.
During the week, the students worked in international teams, solving practical project assignments based on real environmental challenges. Together, they developed innovative solutions ranging from improving waste management systems to creating concepts for sustainable urban spaces.
The students were accompanied by Kaie Eha, Head of the Environmental Technology and Management curriculum at TTK University of Applied Sciences, who described the programme as a highly valuable experience. “The programme provided an excellent opportunity to learn from the experiences of different countries, develop teamwork and problem-solving skills, and see how environmental issues are approached in an international context,” said Eha.
In addition to the joint activities, students participated in lectures and workshops covering topics such as reducing waste generation, sustainable use of resources, the impact of climate change on economic and social development, environmental pollution in the context of globalisation, and more. They also gained new knowledge about carbon markets, climate finance, CCUS technologies (carbon capture, utilisation and storage), and their role in mitigating climate change.
The students visited Portugal as part of the Erasmus+ international intensive study programme Sustainable and Green Future: Tackling Climate Changes Together, which took place from 13–17 April 2026 at Polytechnic University of Portalegre.
