TTK launches a travelling university pilot project in Lääne-Viru County

TTK University of Applied Sciences is launching a travelling university pilot project, with Lääne-Viru County selected as the first target region. The initiative is part of the international ARTEMIS university network and aims to bring the activities and expertise of partner universities each year to different regions, reaching local governments, businesses and communities to help address regional challenges and support sustainable development.

According to Kati Kukk, Director of the Service Economy Institute of TTK in Mõdriku, Lääne-Viru County, the institute plays an important role in developing regional cooperation networks. “Within the travelling university project, we see an opportunity to reach a wider range of stakeholders. At this stage, the exact focus of the project is not yet determined, but we are confident that we can improve access to education for people in the region, support communities in identifying development opportunities, and increase the visibility of the university in our home county,” Kukk added.

The selection of Lääne-Viru County as the pilot region is based on both regional considerations and the aim to strengthen TTK’s regional role. “This is a diverse county where agriculture, industry and technology entrepreneurship intersect. It is also home to a port and an important defence hub in Tapa. The goal of the travelling university activities is to reach as many municipalities and communities as possible and provide them with solutions that meet their actual needs,” Kukk explained.

As the first step of the pilot project, TTK will organise an initial idea collection event in Lääne-Viru County on 15 April. Representatives of selected municipalities, with whom previous cooperation has taken place through the ARTEMIS project’s mobility study, have been invited to attend.

The travelling university model consists of two phases. The first phase focuses on identifying regional needs and shaping ideas, followed by an implementation phase in which selected projects will be tested and developed over a period of up to three years. During this time, continuous cooperation, evaluation of results and further development of solutions will take place.

The ARTEMIS travelling university project creates a platform where universities and regions can jointly shape the future, test new solutions and generate knowledge based on real-life challenges. Through an open and creative environment, the model connects education, research and community life through practical projects and collaboration.

ARTEMIS is a pan-European higher education cooperation network that promotes educational and development collaboration. Together with international companies and institutions, it advances teaching, student and staff mobility, research and development cooperation, as well as innovation and sustainability-related activities.

The partner network includes TTK University of Applied Sciences, Université Clermont Auvergne and Clermont Auvergne Innovation House (France), OTH Regensburg (Germany), VIVES University of Applied Sciences (Belgium), University of Ioannina (Greece), Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Ovidius University of Constanța (Romania), and the University of Perugia (Italy).

The project is co-funded by the European Union.
