In September, the projects funded in the second round of the Estonian Research Agency’s Thematic Research and Development Programmes (TemTA) will get underway. TTK University of Applied Sciences is involved as a partner in 16 projects, accounting for nearly a quarter of all projects funded in the second round.
TTK’s role in the projects ranges from carrying out extensive research and development activities to testing, validating and prototyping specific solutions in real-world environments.
According to Tarmo Sildeberg, Vice-Rector for Development at TTK, the participation of universities of applied sciences in TemTA projects helps bring research results into practical use. “Our role is to put knowledge into practice – we test and evaluate new solutions through prototypes and applied research. The knowledge gained through research and development also supports our teaching by bringing real-life challenges from companies and the world of work to our students and teaching staff,” says Sildeberg.
“Participation in TemTA projects strengthens our cooperation with research groups at universities, supports the development of TTK staff with research and development expertise, and helps build a talent pipeline. By combining the competencies of different partners, we can create solutions that have practical value,” adds Sildeberg.
The three-year TemTA projects address challenges important for Estonia’s development in four areas: valorisation of local resources, digital solutions, health technologies, and smart and sustainable energy solutions. The projects bring together researchers, companies and other partners to help ensure that knowledge and new solutions reach practical application more quickly.
The 65 projects funded in the second round of TemTA were selected from 112 applications, with a total of €50.6 million allocated for their implementation. The projects involve 13 research institutions, 184 companies and organisations, and 121 doctoral students and young researchers.
