TTK University of Applied Sciences and Rae municipality have launched a joint project to analyse traffic management in the Peetri area and develop proposals for creating a safer and more efficient traffic environment.
According to Rõõt Laigu, Project Manager for Mobility Studies at the Institute of Logistics of TTK, the collaboration with Rae Municipality is an important part of the learning process for students specialising in transport and mobility management, allowing them to apply their knowledge in a real-life environment. “Based on analyses and observations, future specialists in the field will contribute to the planning of mobility and spatial solutions in the Peetri area,” Laigu explains.
Students will analyse and observe the area’s traffic management and residents’ mobility habits, while also assessing potential future development directions. The results of the collaboration will provide valuable input for the further development of mobility and traffic safety measures aimed at creating a more convenient, safer and more sustainable environment for residents.
The project, which began in April this year, focuses on parking management in the Peetri area. This includes surveying apartment associations about parking habits and assessing parking facilities for bicycles and light mobility vehicles. The project will also map safe school routes and identify other traffic management bottlenecks in the area. In addition, temporary urban interventions will be carried out to test potential traffic solutions and evaluate their impact on road users and public space.
Observations and measurements will be taking place from May to October. The cooperation project between Rae municipality and TTK will continue until the end of the year.
