Business Simulation and Software Applications Laboratory

The Business Simulation and Software Applications Laboratory at the Institute of Service Economy provides opportunities to gain valuable entrepreneurial experience through simulation-based learning and to explore a wide range of business and management software solutions.

The laboratory offers access to nearly 20 simulation games of varying complexity, suitable for participants ranging from lower secondary school students to active entrepreneurs. These simulations cover topics such as business start-up, financial management, strategic management, sustainability, values-based management, banking, and more.

The laboratory accommodates up to 24 participants. Its classroom layout is designed to support the development of teamwork skills, enabling participants to work in groups of three or six. The laboratory is equipped with the necessary technological infrastructure for conducting training sessions and meetings.

For Partners

The laboratory offers companies and organizations the opportunity to host meetings and training sessions. Training can be commissioned from the Institute of Service Economy across a variety of fields, including business, social work, law, and occupational health.

In addition, organizations are invited to develop their teams’ entrepreneurial thinking and teamwork skills through simulation-based activities.

For Students

Within the course Business Simulation Practicum, students work in teams to manage a virtual company. The simulation requires them to engage with various business processes and to interpret financial statements in order to make informed decisions for subsequent financial periods.

Students gain practical experience in a business environment and develop teamwork competencies.

Initial accounting entries are performed using the accounting software Merit, after which students complete a comprehensive assignment in the business software Standard Books, providing a holistic understanding of a company’s financial operations.

In human resource management courses, students also gain experience with various HR management software tools.
