On Wednesday, 4 November at 18:00, Christophe Barlieb, architect and professor at OTH Regensburg, will give an open lecture at the TTK University of Applied Sciences Institute of Architecture.
Time: Wednesday, 4 November at 18:00
Venue: TTK University of Applied Sciences, Institute of Architecture, auditorium A-429
Lecture title: “CyberCraft: The Human in the Loop”
In his lecture, Professor Barlieb will introduce the CyberCraft concept, which he first proposed in 2019 and which brings together material-based and digital feedback in the creative process. At its core is the idea that feedback arising from the properties of materials, such as clay or brick, can interact with digital input simultaneously during the act of creation.
In the CyberCraft approach, artificial intelligence, augmented reality and robotics are not merely tools used alongside human skills. Instead, they are fully integrated into the creative process and human craftsmanship. This approach makes individualised solutions more accessible by enabling mass customisation at almost the cost of serial production, while also creating opportunities for the emergence of a new aesthetic of craftsmanship.
At the CyberCraft Lab at OTH Regensburg, Professor Barlieb’s research focuses on digital fabrication, construction robotics and extended reality. His projects include augmented reality tools for the construction industry and robotic 3D clay printing. He is also exploring ways to renew vocational education and strengthen regional, decentralised production traditions. Professor Barlieb is currently writing a book on the CyberCraft concept.
Everyone interested in architecture and technology is welcome!
