The Faculty of Architecture as an independent structural unit was established in 1993 and started its work with one curriculum – Construction Architecture. In the academic year 1992/1993 the speciality of construction architecture was one of the study areas of the Faculty of Construction. The faculty prepared construction architects and assistants of architects according to the curriculum based on diploma course study. In 1999 the curriculum was evaluated for the first time by an international expert committee and was fully accredited. In 2002 the diploma course study was replaced with professional higher educational study and the speciality was renamed as Applied Architecture.
The biggest change in the curriculum was the increase of the proportion of practical training which now comprises 30% of the curriculum. The longest and most important part of practical training is carried out in architectural bureaus in the spring term of the third study year. In 2003 the faculty was renamed due to the opening of the new speciality – Techno Ecology – and is now called the Faculty of Architectural and Environmental Engineering, and was approved by Rector’s directive.
Developing the curriculum the needs and recommendations of representatives of professional unions and experts of curricula have been taken into consideration. Module based course system gives the possibility to choose selected subjects.
Master studies for our graduates are possible in the Estonian Academy of Arts, Tallinn University of Technology and in Universities of Applied Sciences in the EU. |
