The Tallinna Tehnikakõrgkool/ University of Applied Sciences has a long history which goes back to 1920-ties. The Tallinna Tehnikakõrgkool/ University of Applied Sciences grew out from Tallinn Polytechnic School which was the first educational establishment offering technical education in Estonia. On the 01.12.1994 the Tallinn Night Technical School was established, which is thought as the beginning of the continuity of the Tallinna Tehnikakõrgkool/ University of Applied Sciences today.
Since 1940 there have been taught 24 specialities and accordingly the name of our college has borne the following names:
- 1940- 1944 Tallinna Õhtutehnikum (Tallinn Night Technical School)
- 1944- 1945 Tallinna II Tööstustehnikum (Tallinn Second Technical School of Technology)
- 1945- 1948 Tallinna Industriaaltehnikum (Tallinn Industrial Technical School)
- 1948- 1955 Tallinna Arhitektuuri- ja Ehitustehnikum (Tallinn Technical School of Architecture and Construction)
- 1955- 1961 Tallinna Ehitustehnikum (Tallinn Technical School of Construction)
- 1961- 1992 Tallinna Ehitus- ja Mehaanikatehnikum (Tallinn Technical School of Building and Mechanics)
- 1992- 1999 Tallinna Kõrgem Tehnikakool (Tallinn Institute of Technology)
- 1999- 2007 Tallinna Tehnikakõrgkool (Tallinn College of Engineering)
- 2007- ... Tallinna Tehnikakõrgkool (Tallinna Tehnikakõrgkool/ University of Applied Sciences)
As the name of the educational establishment has reflected the specialities being taught here, the most well-known of all the predecessors is Tallinn Technical School of Building and Mechanics which provided the specialities in the fields of construction and mechanics.
Since the very beginning 17500 highly qualified specialists have graduated from our college.
The process of transferring from the curricula of technicians of vocational educational level to the curricula of applied higher education started in 1992. The curricula of higher applied education were accredited by the international work group in 1999. Throughout the following period the aim of Tallinna Tehnikakõrgkool/ University of Applied Sciences has been to reach the internationally recognised level of higher applied education. In training the students to become competitive specialists the requirements of the employers have been considered. Our co-operation partners both in Estonia and abroad as well as our participation in international projects (Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci, Phare etc) have supported the development of Tallinna Tehnikakõrgkool/ University of Applied Sciences. |
